User Onboarding for Healthcare
Onboarding for healthcare apps — privacy-first, consent-aware.
Healthcare apps onboard patients, providers, and administrators — three audiences with very different needs and trust levels. BreakGround supports the role-based onboarding, consent-aware analytics, and HIPAA-conscious data handling that healthcare products require.
Challenges
- Patient onboarding requires trust + clarity: Patients arriving at a healthcare app are anxious, unfamiliar with the product, and skeptical. Onboarding has to communicate trust as much as functionality.
- Provider onboarding is a different problem: Doctors, nurses, and admin staff need different onboarding paths than patients. The same app, three audiences, three workflows. Generic onboarding fails all three.
- Compliance constraints on what can be tracked: PHI can't enter analytics tools. Consent-aware tracking, pseudonymization, and per-region data handling are non-negotiable.
How BreakGround helps
- Role-based onboarding: Different guides for patients, providers, and admins — driven by user role at login.
- Patient education tours: Multi-step tours that explain how to book appointments, message providers, and manage records — without overwhelming.
- Self-serve patient support: An in-app AI agent that answers questions and generates guidance flows reduces non-clinical support load — appointment changes, billing questions, account management.
Frequently asked questions
Is BreakGround HIPAA compliant?
BreakGround Enterprise customers can sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) and use the platform for HIPAA-bound use cases. Pro and Growth plans don't ship with a BAA — those plans are appropriate for healthcare apps that don't process PHI through BreakGround. Confirm with the BreakGround team before processing PHI.
Can I use BreakGround without exposing patient data?
Yes. BreakGround user identification works with pseudonymous IDs (e.g., a hashed user ID instead of an email or name). PII and PHI fields can be excluded from event tracking via SDK configuration. Most healthcare deployments operate this way.
Where is data stored?
BreakGround stores engagement data in regional cloud infrastructure with TLS in transit and AES-256 at rest. EU data residency is available on Pro and Enterprise plans. Detailed security and DPA documentation is on the Security and DPA pages.
