User Onboarding for E-commerce
Engagement tooling for e-commerce — popups, tours, segmented promotions.
E-commerce engagement is different from SaaS onboarding: most users are guests, sessions are short, and conversion happens in minutes. BreakGround works on Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and custom storefronts — with cart-abandonment popups, segmented promotions, and product-education tours.
Challenges
- Cart abandonment is invisible until it's too late: Most cart abandonment happens silently. By the time email recovery fires, the user has moved on. In-product nudges catch the user while attention is still on the store.
- Universal popups train users to dismiss: Generic popups shown to every visitor get dismissed within a second. Targeted popups — first-time vs returning, by cart value, by referral source — earn engagement.
- Product education for complex SKUs: Complex products (electronics, supplements, beauty) need explanation. Product description pages alone don't get the job done; in-context tours do.
How BreakGround helps
- Cart-abandonment popups: Behavior-triggered popups that fire when a user is about to leave with items in their cart — segmented by cart value, customer tier, and referral source.
- Product education tours: Multi-step tours that walk users through complex product configurations — sizing guides, fit recommendations, ingredient explanations.
- Customer-segmented promotions: Different banners for first-time visitors vs returning customers vs VIP-tier customers, all from the same dashboard.
Frequently asked questions
Does BreakGround work with Shopify?
Yes. BreakGround installs on any Shopify theme via a single script tag in `theme.liquid` — no app install, no monthly app fee. Shopify Plus is also fully supported. Customer attributes from Liquid (orders_count, total_spent, tags) can drive segment-aware guides.
Will BreakGround conflict with my existing email recovery tool?
No. BreakGround handles in-app moments — cart popups, product education, on-site banners. Email recovery tools (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Omnisend) handle the email moment. They run in parallel and complement each other.
Where is data stored?
BreakGround stores engagement data in regional cloud infrastructure with TLS in transit and AES-256 at rest. EU data residency is available on Pro and Enterprise plans. Detailed security and DPA documentation is on the Security and DPA pages.
